Perhaps the most underrated of Utah’s “Mighty Five” national parks, Capitol Reef is a true hidden gem. The park is often overlooked due to it’s more famous siblings and their amazing features. Unlike Utah’s other national parks, Capitol Reef doesn’t have one stand out a feature like the arches of Arches or the Zion canyon of Zion.   Canyonlands is around hours from Capitol Reef and is an overwhelmingly large park divided into three portions—The Maze, Island in the Sky and The Needles. National Geographic’s Guide to National Parks of the United States suggests taking on the car friendly terrain of Island in the Sky, if there’s not much time to explore.

Grand National Parks of the Southwest - Bryce & Zion to the Grand Canyon. Independent Rail Journeys. Chicago Grand Junction Arches National Park Canyonlands National Park Grand Junction Capitol Reef National Park Bryce Canyon National Park Springdale Zion National Park Williams Grand Canyon National Park Williams Chicago. 9 Days - from $2, SLC - Capitol Reef - Moab (Arches/Canyonlands) - SLC or the reverse. Depending on your interests - lots of hiking, some jeeping, etc., you could spend a week just in Moab and 5 days or so in Capitol Reef. If you are set on doing Vegas - Denver, then the route would be Vegas - Capitol Reef - Moab - Denver. It's a 6 hour drive, Las Vegas to.

      3. Capitol Reef National Park. The middle park of the Mighty 5 Utah is Capitol Reef National Park. This park is located more towards the center of the state. Although one of the lesser visited parks in Utah, Capitol Reef does not disappoint. You can expect enormous multi-colored cliff sides, a few secret arches, and wide canyons.   Once back on High hike to Hickman Bridge. If your next destination is Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks) or Goblin Valley, you will head east out of Capitol Reef. If you enter Capitol Reef from the east, hike Hickman Bridge, drive the Scenic Drive, and end with Panorama and Sunset Point. Driving Distances from Nearby Destinations.
